George faggas, parish council president
George Faggas grew up in Watertown,
MA and lived in Waltham with his
family. He has been a lifelong member of Taxiarchae Church, he served as an altar boy and was a member of GOYA have served on the parish council for the past several years as Vice President fallowing in his father's footsteps who servers many years. He is the President of the Faggas Funeral Service assisting families in very difficult times in their lives for over 60 years. He is involved in many civic activities, and is very excited to be part of the future of our parish.
Nicholas stamos, vice President
Nicholas Stamos grew up in Newton, Massachusetts. His spouse Tracy, mother Anastasia Stamos, late father Michael Stamos and his brother, Angelo Stamos have been part of the Taxiarchae community since the early 1970s. Nicholas served as an Alter Boy during the tenure of Reverend Metaxas for several years and was a member of Jr. and Sr. GOYA. He graduated Newton South High School in 1987, and Tufts University in 1993 with double degree, a BS and MS Electrical and Computer Engineering. After graduating, Nicholas worked at Lotus, Wang, and SoftKey, before starting four different companies. One of the companies, Phase Forward, became the largest clinical trial software company in the world, and was acquired by Oracle in 2007. Another, Digital Guardian, is the world’s leading information security company, protecting data at government organizations and the leading Global 2000 companies. Nicholas has also been awarded 9 US patents. He currently serves as the CEO of his latest company e-Share. Nicholas was honored to join the Parish Council in 2016 and has focused on modernizing the technology infrastructure so as to better serve the Taxiarchae community.
Tassos anastasiou, secretary
Tassos Anastasiou grew up in Waltham, Mass, where he still lives with spouse Diane and children Gina and Nicholas. Parents are John and Niki Anastasiou, siblings are Diane and Peter Anastasiou. He has been part of the Taxiarchae community since the early 70's. He graduated from Arlington Catholic HS in '91, graduated from Northeastern Univ in '97 (BS - Health Management), Graduate Certificate in Program/Project Management from Brandeis University in 2008. He currently works at Tufts Health Plan as a Program Manager II - Merged Markets. He is also a member of the Artemis Hellenic Sportsmen Association. He joined the Parish Council in 2016, which has been a great honor.
nancy sarris, treasurer
Nancy Sarris, the church’s treasurer, has a long, diverse financial services background. Working since she was 12, Nancy began learning about running a business from her dad, who was a golf professional in RI. When her dad passed away unexpectedly, Nancy put herself through Bryant College studying business by working full time in banking.
With over 35 years in financial services, Nancy held many executive level positions at State Street, Citizens Bank and most recently at Belmont Savings Bank as the Senior Vice President/Director of Retail She led various business lines including finance, business continuity, global financial technology and retail banking.
Nancy is now sharing her experience by volunteering in the non-profit sector. She has held many board positions the past 20 years. In addition to her treasurer role on the Taxiarchae Parish Council, Nancy is the president of the Belmont Woman’s Club and serves on the Belmont Media Center Board of Directors.
In addition to her commitment to giving back, Nancy enjoys spending time with her husband, George, their little dog, Bella, and their beautiful families. In her free time, Nancy enjoys reading, playing golf and volunteering.
John kopellas, stewardship chairperson
John Kopellas has been a steward of the Taxiarchae Church for 19 years. He is an Enterprise Executive at Excel Medical. He is married to Fotoula Kopellas, and they have two children. In addition to serving on the Parish Council, he has also been leading our Athletic Ministry for the past 17 years, and has been an advisor of the Altar Boy Ministry for the past 8 years.
Costa karageorgis, asst. stewardship chairperson
Costa Karageorgis was born in Arlington, MA. He is a Mechanical Engineer working for Raytheon Company. Costa has been a member of the Taxiarchae Church since he was 10 years old. His many involvements in the life of our parish include weekly attendance at the Divine Liturgy. Costa is currently the director of our Sunday School and also a former Parish Council President.
John A. Abate was born in Winthrop, Massachusetts and is married to Nickie Abate. They have two sons. John is an accountant and a realtor, working at his own firms (MASCO Consultant Services and Ink. Realty). He has been a member of Taxiarchae Church since 1966. He served as Treasurer for 18 years, President for 6 years and has also served as Vice President. John has chaired and co-chaired numerous Greek Festivals and committees. He started the participation from our Church in Watertown Fair on the Square. “I look forward to full participation from all generations in all Church activities”.
Harry J. Berlis has been a member of the Taxiarchae Church since the late 1980’s. He is married to Maria (Stamatopoulos) Berlis of Belmont where they live with their three children Demitri (9), Eva (7) and Melina (5). He is a Geotechnical Engineer and works at McPhail Associates, LLC in Cambridge where he has over 22 years of experience in the design, construction and repair building foundations. Harry is currently on the committee that is overseeing the renovation of Church’s front entrance and parking lot. Harry believes that a strong foundation is essential to achieving your goals.
Georgia (Jody) Bitsikas, grew up in Belmont and still residing there. Proud Mother of Constantinos (CJ) and Damian. Employed at Direct Federal Credit Union as an Operations Specialist. The Taxiarchae Church has been my parish home since early 1970. Following my Fathers footsteps who served on the PC for many years I was blessed to have joined the PC in 2016. I feel very strongly for the Taxiarchae parish and look forward to serving this parish and growing it even stronger in the years to come.
Harry Chehames was born in Cambridge, MA, the son of the late Harry and Mary Chehames. He attended Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Cambridge until his early adult years. He is married to Fay (Vlahos) and resides in Carlisle. They have been members of the Taxiarchae/Archangels Greek Orthodox Church for over 35 years. They have two sons, Steven and Nicholas. Harry is the owner of Cedar Builders for over three decades, focusing on residential as well as commercial construction. Harry is honored and privileged to have serve on the Taxiarchae Parish Council for the last six years. He also enjoys taking part in the church’s largest fundraiser, the Annual Grecian Festival.
Charles Kalivas was born in Cambridge, Massachusets. He has an insurance agency in Arlington, MA and has been blessed by the support he has had by the Greek communities in this area. Charlie has been at the Taxiarchae Parish since 1962, as a member of Jr. GOYA under the spiritual direction of Father Emanuel Metaxas. Charlie married Cathy (Gianopoulos)Kalivas in 1970 and together they have sung in the Taxiarchae Choir since 1975. Charlie has served previously on the parish council and was Treasurer in 2013.
Anthony Kapadoukakis currently works at Massasoit Community College and Harvard University Health Services. Tony has been a member of the Taxiarchae/Archangels Watertown Greek Orthodox community since 1975. He started as an altar boy and has served twice as a member of our parish council. He has also been a member of the AHEPA for twenty-five years.
For 29 years, Tony was the Chief Radiographer for MGH. He has also been a multi-site Radiology Manager for Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates for 5 years.
He holds a Ph.D in Astrophysics and Ph.D in Radiation Physics and Masters in HealthCare Education and has taught at Bunker Hill Community College, Mass Bay Community College and former Medical Imaging Department chair/Program Director at Springfield Technical Community College.
Peter Karalis has been a member of the Taxiarchae Parish for 14 years. He is married to Argyo Nikoletos, who has been one of our Greek school teachers here at Taxiarchae for many years. They have an 11 year old son, Nikolas, and an 8 year old daughter, Christna, who both participate in numerous church ministries. Peter is a Software engineer working for Oracle Corp. in the Health Sciences division. He has been an active participant at the church festival for years and enjoys helping the church in any capacity that he can.
Nicholas Papakyrikos was born in Lesvos, Greece, the son of Strats and Ariadni Papakyrikos. He grew up in Watertown and is a graduate of Watertown High School, Wentworth Institute and Northeastern University. He is married to Tamara Papakyrikos; they have four children and live in Needham. He has worked in high tech manufacturing for over thirty years, and currently owns and operates ASP Enterprises Inc. dba Signs By Tomorrow, a Sign and graphics business located in Newton. Nick has been attending the Taxiarchae Parish since 1973. He is a past member of the Parish Council, having served as assistant treasurer and has been an active participant of the annual church festival and other parish activities.
Costa Zahos has been a life-long member of the Taxiarchae Church. He is a mechanical engineer working for a medical company in Lexington. His wife, Krishna, is a lawyer working for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in Cambridge. They have two children, Dina and Elias, who attend Sunday School and Greek School at the Taxiarchae Church. He is running for a second term on the Parish Council, and looks forward to your support.
Honorary Life Time Member
ERNEST G. J. ANASTOS
Ernie first became aware of the Watertown Taxiarchae Church through my courtship of, and his engagement to Loretta Hasapidis whose parents were long time active parishioners and supporters of the Watertown Church going back to its early years on Arlington Street.
Since 1967, when Ernie and Loretta, were married in the current church edifice, they have been members and active supporters of the Parish. Their two daughters as well as both of our granddaughters were baptized in the Taxiarchae Church and are currently members of the Parish.
In 1998 Ernie and his wife became honorary Godparents (along with a number of other parishioners) of the Taxiarchae Church at the time of its consecration.
Ernie has served on the Parish Council in various capacities from 1974 to 1977, 2004 to 2010 and 2013 to 2015. In December 2010 the parish council honored him by voting to make him an honorary lifetime member of the Council.
